Your Roof Loves Water

Researchers have found out that planted roofs maintain a temperature of only 25 degrees Celsius on a hot day, compared to 70 degrees for a conventional roof. Because of the heating and cooling throughout the day (day and night temperatures), roofs expand and contract and this causes stress on the material.
A planted roof reduces the heat gained and the fluctuations in roof surface temperature and this prolongs the life of the roof. But that's a given since all roofs are exposed to day and night time temperatures.
What really bothers homeowners is the effect of rain or snow. moisture
causes damage whatever roof material you use. Fortunately, green roof researchers have found out that planting your roof will provide you with an effect way of managing storm water, draining it out, or retaining it (for the cooling effect) during summer.During rains, a planted roof will collect water and use it for plant growth. Researchers estimate that around 3.3 centimeters of water can be trapped by green roofs during rains. So forget about leaks because you wont have that much water to worry about. Heck, your roof loves water.
