The Tide Comes In to New York's East River: New York's Roosevelt Island Tidal Energy Project
Filed in archive Tide on April 28, 2007
New York is looking at underwater turbines to generate electricity in the East river and is known by its long name, New York's Roosevelt Island Tidal Energy Project. The project will use three-bladed turbines from Verdant Power that can produce between 16 to 32 kilowatts each. The beauty of the project is, according to Trey Taylor, president of Verdant Power, the technology is far from episodic. You can actually take a look at the in-stream tide chart and know the currents on any given day in the future. Great news for many who would be skeptical about this technology (or those that had bad experiences with wind).
So another promising one from our friends from New York. If this technology does make it there, I bet it will make it anywhere, right?
