The Quandary

Here is an interesting exchange on climate change positions from two big groups. On one hand the Chinese and on the other the British. I got this from Dr. Dick of the Corporation for Future Resources.

Venue: UN Security Council Debate on Climate Change

Britain – global conflicts are ignited over the issue, while developing nations said the topic didn't belong on the council's agenda

China – The Security Council is the forum to discuss issues that threaten the peace and security of the international community. What makes wars start?

Britain – "climate change is a ''threat multiplier for instability" which affects economies (I think that is very correct!)

China – The US is the Worst polluter, they better stop first! (I think that that too is very correct!)

Both countries are correct and are looking at self-preservation. On one hand, a growing economy like China would look at global warming restrictions as something that would decrease the momentum it has gained economically whilst an established economy such as Britain would want those that are in the process of "development" to slow down. Who is ultimately right in this argument? Both are. But who losses more because of the delay in resolving the issue and coming up with a unified stand? You and me, my friend. You and me.
