The Need for Global and Domestic Renewable Energy Legislation

What good is a target if there is no mechanism in place that would enable one to achieve those targets?

That is essentially, why every sovereign state has a legislative system. Laws enable a country to set a collective goal, work towards that goal, and regulate actions that take place to meet the goal. The same is true for renewable energy targets, that is, a legislative framework must be developed that will help the global community and each respective country to align itself to the global energy targets.

Here are two articles on the matter that may help.

This is one is calling for global legislation.

And here is one calling for domestic legislation written by Bracken Hendricks and Janet Sawin from the Washington Post. Their point is that the US has made changes in energy policy before. The difference with this one is that there is a need for a long-term, incentivized, privately led but publicly supported government program to address the current energy policy shift from the conventional fossil fuel base to renewables.

The call for an effective, iron clad domestic policy that adheres to a global yet equitable energy policy is a universal requirement. Each and every country needs a domestic policy that works and this planet needs a unified goal encased in a workable framework.
