The Future of Electric Car Maker Th!nk

Filed in archive Automobiles on March 14, 2009

Norwegian car maker Th!nk is in the news at the moment.

Treehugger describes Th!nk as having "a long and troubled history - gone bankrupt twice, changed hands a couple of times (including a short stormy marriage with Ford) and stopped its production line late last year when the economic crisis hit." They reported last week that the car company is thinking of relocating to Sweden - or maybe the U.K. Both those countries are evidently willing to subsidize the existence of Th!nk until times become more prosperous. Things that make you go hmmm. We'll see, I guess.

In a related story, PE Hub says that Th!nk is looking to start a U.S. production facility that would produce 16,000 cars a year to start. According to PE Hub, Th!nk is company is in talks with eight states, including Michigan, on a site for the facility that would initially employ about 300 workers.

Th!nk is owned by private equity group Novus Energy Partners.
