The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 exists now in draft form in the U.S. House. The WWF is happy; groups like Shop Floor are unhappy.

I had to laugh at one of Shop Floor's points. They agreed that the new law would create a lot of jobs, but said that so did Hurricane Katrina…

Justin Moresco over at Red Herring described the bill this way:

the draft bill includes a nationwide renewable portfolio standard that requires electric utilities to get at least 6 percent of their power from renewable sources by 2012. That baseline gradually rises to 25 percent by 2025, and states may choose to meet one-fifth of this requirement with energy efficiency measures.

The Daily Kos has weighed in on it, as has the H Post. We'll see what it looks like after Congress has worked it over a couple of times. Laws and sausages…

    Being Asian, I support any Act passed by US Government on saving the planet earth. US needs to take her leadership on making our environment friendly.
