Spanish Island of El Hierro to Attempt Energy Independence

According to the spanish Ministry for Industry, Tourism, and Commercie, El Hierro will be the first energy self-sufficient island in the world. It will have a development budget of over 50 million Euros and will be based on a combination ofhydro and wind power.
A giant feat because it will replace 6,000 tons of diesel, equivalent to more than 1.8 million Euros. Read more about this story here.
