Spanish Island of El Hierro to Attempt Energy Independence

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketAccording to the spanish Ministry for Industry, Tourism, and Commercie, El Hierro will be the first energy self-sufficient island in the world. It will have a development budget of over 50 million Euros and will be based on a combination ofhydro and wind power.

A giant feat because it will replace 6,000 tons of diesel, equivalent to more than 1.8 million Euros. Read more about this story here.
