Solar Powered Coolers?
Filed in archive Solar on May 6, 2006
If you're going to take a trip to the beach this summer or for that matter go out on a picnic a solar powered cooler would be just the ticket, that is if you could find one though?! I spent some time searching the internet for the elusive solar powered cooler and this is what I found:
Initially, I thought this was one and at a price of only £27.95 and at that price I was not worried about the shipping.
Sunshine Solar - Portable Cooler
Cools and Warms
Led Display
Can/Cup Holders
Cigarette Lighter
Sunshine Solar
Okay and looking at this more closely this cooler looks to be a 12vdc cooler and not solar powered? This was somewhat misleading as this company sells solar powered equipment.
And then there is the yet to be manufactured, "SOLAR polar ROCK-N-ROLLER," that comes fully equipped with an integrated solar panel that runs the CD/Stereo incorporated in the ice chest, the light, cellular phone jack, and 110 VAC inverter...
it does not say if the cooler is solar cooled though?

I also found a few solar powered backpacks that power accessories such as mp3 players, cell phones etc...
I really thought there would be a readily accessible solar powered cooler on the market by now and I'm almost sure there are a few, if not at least one, but based on my search results, items like these are not that easy to find?
If anyone knows of a genuine solar powered cooler please post a comment with a http://www.link.com to the product.

Yes, I would definately be interested in purchasing a solar powered or at least assisted powered or combination wind up, solar powered cooler. I have the new flashlights, radios (weather channel) from freeplay and they have a power source that might just work for a cooler that connects to the cigarette lighter. I just noticed this product today. It is on the website for freeplay products.

I'd go for a solar powered conditioning air cooler. Our actual devices get us in a vicious circle: we use electric power to cool our homes in the global warming era and the production of the power used adds some more CO2 in the air, which leads to more global warming.

interesting, i personally fresh out of school in 1989 did an international patent search through a south african law firm for a solar powered cooler and was told i was three weeks too late. i had a professor assist in making a proto type back then which was completed and worked. i went for my national sevice and abandoned the project and never persued it further i am very intersted to see what has been developed kind regards george christofidis.

This is a great ebook on solar energy that has been out for a little while and even has a forward by Willie Nelson. There is plans for a DIY solar ice maker which could easily be used for a cooler. The principle is fairly easy and uses everyday items. This is a torrent download. Hope this helps, will post back after mine is built.
