Small Wind: GE Is Investing

April 16th, 2009

CNET reported earlier this month that GE is sinking money into wind power. But it's not the big super-turbines, it's small personal wind turbines that GE is focusing on.

Southwest Windpower, which makes residential wind turbines, said on Monday it has raised $10 million from existing investors and General Electric to expand its operations. With the money, the Flagstaff, Ariz.-based company said it intends to grow its European operations and invest in product development.

Southwest Windpower's small turbines probably can't make homeowners energy independent. But the CNET article says the turbines can supply about half a home owner's normal power demand.

any step towards alternative energy sources seems to be a step in the right direction to me! I have an article about future wind power projects for the Great Lakes if you’re interested
