If you're worried about your carbon footprint, one of the lifesytle choices to consider has to do with your vacation.
I spent the weekend recently putting out grass seeds to build up the lawn at my family's vacation home in South Carolina. It's a beautiful little place not far from Furman University in South Carolina's northwest corner. I prefer the look and feel of Kentucky bluegrass, and that's what I was spreading.
The amount of energy waste that goes on at most hotels is astounding. I haven't done the exact math, but I'm guessig that a week in a hotel at Myrtle Beach leaves the same carbon footprint for my family as two or three months at home. We talked abotu it as a family and decided that qwe could afford a vacation home. We still go to the beach occasionally. But a vacation is the hills is more relaxing. And it makes us feel good about ourselves to know that our vacation isn't hurting the environment any more than it has to.
