Pennsylvania To Become the Leading Biofuel State by 2007

Residents of Pennsylvania will soon be at the same league as the Californians by virtue of becoming a front-runner in the US renewable energy market. But the Pennsylvanians have gone a different green track, and instead of wind or solar initiatives, they have gone to Biofuels production. Edward Rendell, Pennsylvania's Governor has just announced that an additional $3 million is being invested into the alternative fuel Incentive Grants (AFIG) to progress to $40 million over 5 years. He further said:

"Pennsylvania has aggressively pursued a leadership role in advancing the technology and deployment of alternative fuels in order to build a dynamic new commercial sector that diversifies our energy supplies and puts people to work. These strategic investments will move us further down the road to true energy security for the people and businesses of Pennsylvania."

This is certainly good news, on top of the state's commitment to renewable energy development. The state's Energy Portfolio will require 18 percent of all retail energy generated by 2020 to be sourced from renewable resources and an ambitious 900 million gallons of biofuels in 10 years.
