Jamaica Joins the Renewable Energy Movement
Filed in archive Current News on December 30, 2006
Next time you are planning to go out for vacation, you might want to consider going to Jamaica (land of Ska and bob marley) to do your environmental bit. This is because the country intends to put up its own renewable energy program by 2007 and reduce oil imports according to this article. With the goal of starting at a contribution of 5% of its total energy requirement to come from renewables, the country thinks it can achieve a maximum of 15% by 2015. As always, this needs private sector participation, maybe solar and mini-hydros? What do you think?
