It looks like Italy is beefing up on its solar energy capacity, as 60 megawatts of total photovoltaic capacity is set to be available by this year. According to Gianni Silvestrini, energy adviser to Italy's Economic Development Minister Pierluigi Bersani,
"This year the new capacity will be 20 MW. It's a four-fold increase from last year's (new capacity of) 5 MW," "There is room for four or five-fold increases in the next few years,"
Although lagging behind its European neighbors, this act by the Italians demonstrate their adherence to the EU's goal of cutting down carbon dioxide emissions. Read more about this story here.

This is great news, but more and more countries need to benefit the solar energy right on their doorstep.

Solar energy is not cheap, but we need to remember that investments in solar energy are investments in future. Italy is doing right steps… hope other countries will follow this example.
