Increased Lifespan of High Capacity Energy Systems with Nanostructured Materials
Filed in archive Edge Technology on August 21, 2006
Carnegie Mellon University: Materials Science and biomedical engineering Professor Prashant Kumta discovered a nanocrystalline material that is cheaper, stable, and produces higher quality energy storage capacity. According to Professor Kumta
"We have found that synthesis of nanostructured vanadium nitride and controlled oxidation of the surface at the nanoscale is key to creating the next generation of supercapacitors commonly used in everything from cars, camcorders and lawn mowers to industrial backup power systems at hospitals and airports"
Imagine what this could do to the computer, cellular phone, and other electronic-device centered industry. With the increased usage in devices that require more efficient battery technology, an improvement in the lifespan and storage capacity will create tremendous benefit.
