Honda Enters the Solar Cell Production Industry
Honda Motor Co. of Japan has now entered the Solar Cell Production Market by announcing its plans of establishing a wholly-wned subsidiary called Honda Soltec Co.. The subsidiary will produce and sell next-generation thin-film solar cells developed by Honda itself, which are reportedly made from the elements copper, indium, gallium, and selenium (or CIGS). And in addition to promised increase in energy efficiency, Honda reports that its production plant is more environment-friendly as well.

Honda began the construction of its Kumamoto factory in September 2006 which will be the main production site of its CIGS photovoltaic devices. The production unit is designed to consume less energy during the manufacturing process (a reported 50% reduced energy demand) which will make not just the solar cell manufacturing facility more earth-friendly, but also a great example for a corporate giant making business out of saving the planet.
