Filed in archive Wind on December 12, 2008

Grays Harbor Energy announced plans this past week to take wind farms off Shore, according to Michael Lee over at Red Herring.

Seattle-based Grays Harbor is looking at seven off shore US sites where both wind and wave facilities could be set up. The projects would be in waters off California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island. According to Red Herring, Grays Harbor President Burt Hamner said that the average offshore wind farm would cost $4 million per megawatt. That adds up to to at least $28 billion to construct everything Grays has planned - 1,000 megawatts of wind power and 100 megawatts of wave power for each of the seven sites.

The company expects to raise most of the money from private investors.
