Google and Sun Join Forces
Filed in archive Solar on October 16, 2006
Internet search company Google and the Sun will join forces early next year to provide its customers with high speed internet web searches using clean and renewable energy. This is due to Google putting up 9,200 solar panels in its 1 million square-foot corporate headquarters in Silicon Valley to generate 1.6 megawatts of electricity. Google VP for real estate David Radcliffe believes that this is a huge statement from the company. "We hope America is paying attention. We want to see a lot of copycats" he said.
Will other internet companies follow suit? Maybe but not readily, as Google's venture would cost an arm and a leg for smaller, less cash-rich net companies. Still Google is optimistic, as the project will generate energy savings that will pay off over the short to medium term.
Anything that has to do with the internet and renewable energy and you have most people hooked. And this is just another reason to Google more.
