Fueling Your Car: Ethanol or Coal

There is an on-going coal Versus ethanol issue now in the US senate. It looks like the US Senate may legislate the replacement of one fourth of the US national gasoline with bioethanol and then further cutting gasoline consumption to half the projected requirement by 2030. What do you replace gasoline with?

Coal-state legislators are promoting liquefied coal despite concerns about global warming. They got voted down but they continued with their argument saying that its a case of building a policy over US coal and against Saudi oil. However, those opposing the argument said that coal is energy intensive and will release more greenhouse gases than it saves.

Now its all up to the US Senate. Read more about this development here.
