Electrify a Microbe: Get Hydrogen
Filed in archive H2 on October 30, 2006
Scientists have discovered a way to get more than from microbes than just waste water treatment, hydrogen. While this discovery will not produce bountiful amounts of hydrogen to power our hydrogen cars, it nonetheless makes using microbes more cost effective, productive, and exciting.
Bacteria produce hydrogen. This is a natural chemical reaction that of course has a limit. Running a current through bacteria gives it the mutant ability to break down acetic acid into carbon dioxide and hydrogen. Get more shocking revelations by reading the rest of the article here.
