Death Sport: Killing the Planet?
Being a sporting fan (of many different sports) I found this article from the Observer quite interesting and intriguing. It is about From: How Sport is (supposedly) Killing the Planet.

Of course the article does talk about motor racing (after all that is the only one with a highly visible use of petroleum products). But the article also points out the disastrous effects of organized sport and sporting spectacles like football, etc. Building stadiums, transporting fans, and other related activities does contribute to green house gas emission. But what can we really do?

In a sense this article could be saying something right but in a larger perspective I find it odd to think that the sporting sector is not responsible for its actions. After all, it is not the sport per se that is to blame, if ever, for the environmental effects, it is the people wanting to participate in it that must be made aware of their environmental and energy responsibilities. And if you think that way, then that principle could be applied to any human action.

Sport is not killing this planet. We are.
