China: The Next Biofuel Giant

China is going at it big time, biofuels-wise. According to Wang Zhongying, the director for the Center for Renewable Energy Development of the National Development and reform Commission (NDRC), China will use .67 million tons of ethanol and 11 million tons of biodiesel by 2010. This volume of biofuels will account for about 10 percent of the forecasted transport fuel demand of China.
China is currently producing and exporting ethanol but the government is keen on increasing the usage base of biofuels in the domestic transport sector.
