Can we afford not to?

Let me ask you a question; Is today's energy needs and with it pollution control being met?
All around us we see many examples of a grandfathered concept that fossil fuels are the only forms of energy worth anything. But more interesting is the developement of alternative fuel sources that are rivaling big oil, and maybe even annoying it.
What would happen if we were to fully develope and implement a renewable, sustainable engery source that did not leave harmeful chemicals in its wake?
Several concepts are worth mentioning and a few can be done right now. Want to power your home indefinately with no bills and no guilt of damaging your enviroment? How about Hydrogen Fuel cells; then there is the Stirling Cycle engine, with just a minor temperature change, you can run a power generation system that could effective keep things running for a long time.
What I am getting at here is this, the current regulatory system in place accross america is that foissil fuels is the most effective and safest way to generate power. These regualtions sustain a growing dependancy on fossil fuels, but at the same time makes things such as a $1500 Methnol fuelcell system a "dangerous" possibily that must be reviewed to death.
We need alternative fuel not, not in 2075 when all the oil drys up.
Summary: We need to move on into alternative energy solutions
