Australia’s Own Wave Plant

I seem to be finding wave plants one after another. Here is an article that describes what would in a few weeks time, be Australia's answer to global warming and thirst. Energetech si planning to anchor a 485 tonn plant that will power 500 homes off the Sydney grid by anchoring the facility just 100 meters off Wollongong (south of Sydney).

The wave tunnel is a funnel facing the ocean where waves would drive air through a pipe into a turbine capable of churning 500kW of energy daily. Costing about $6 Million, this floating plant will also disalinate 2000 liters of drinking water each day!

Electricity is generated when waves wash into a funnel facing the ocean, driving air through a pipe and into a turbine capable of pumping 500kw of clean power each day into the local grid. The A$6 million ($4.7 million) floating plant, built to withstand a 1-in-100 year storm, can also desalinate 2,000 litres of drinking water each day for almost as many homes as it powers.
