50% Renewable Energy for the US by 2025?
Filed in archive Renewable Energy on May 5, 2007
Can renewable energy resources supply 50% of the US demand for electricity by 2025? The American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) believes its possible.
According to this article from CNN, Micheal Eckhart, president of ACORE believes that huge amounts of energy can be supplied in an environmentally sustainable fashion, only that"...We still have elected officials who believe renewable energy cannot power this country..."
.
According to US government projections, renewable energy resources can only contribute between 5 to 15% of energy but this is reflective of today's policies. Eckhart added that"...Renewable energy doesn't amount to much unless you change policy."
Alternatively, ACORE projects a total supply capacity of over 40% from renewables using wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, and all water related solutions such as hydro, tidal, and wave.
Question is, will policy change?
